What's on the Ballot?

The transportation tax hike is expected to raise $342 million in the first year. Assuming an inflation & population increase factor of 5%, the tax will suck $23 billion from our local economy over its 30-year life.

In 2023, a family of four's equivalent share would be a whopping $912! This cost will grow each year.

Proponents will argue that a family of four would pay less because tourists pay some of the tax, but that doesn't tell the whole picture. Tourist money spent on taxes is money not available to spend at our local businesses which becomes income for business owners and their employees.

In addition, businesses pay sales taxes on their leases. Businesses respond by raising their prices when their costs rise to cover this additional burden. Thus this tax is in itself inflationary as it results in higher costs to all residents of Hillsborough County.

Thus a family of four's "equivalent share" in 2023 is $912!
