Tampa Scammed Before — Why the Rays Stadium Deadline Smells Like Centro Ybor 2.0

So many lessons to learn in relation to the Rays Stadium Scam. Centro Ybor developers promised to revitalize Ybor City and payback Tampa if they would apply for and hand over a $9+ million dollar HUD loan to them. They had rosy economic projections to sway elected officials. The project underperformed and went belly up in 2004 so Tampa residents ended up paying $16 million (with interest on the loan). Due diligence by public officials is crucial in this process and not be rushed by the Ray’s made-up deadline.

Email all 7 commissioners HERE and tell them to vote NO on 5/6/26, don't send tax dollars to subsidize a billionaire's ballpark! Let them shoulder the cost, don't burden taxpayers.
